Executive Summary

Two agentic-AI exposures need action this week. Symantec captured the Skynet LLMjacking agent, which turns unauthenticated model endpoints into the reasoning engine for attacks on others. V12 disclosed uncapped spending in x402 agent-payment SDKs, fixed silently with no advisory, so dependency scanners will not flag vulnerable versions. Anthropic found 94 setting combinations that silently disable security controls. On governance, EN 18286 is now the first AI Act harmonised standard but covers only quality management, and cross-hosting of frontier models means multi-model no longer equals infrastructure diversity.

Skynet-Mode LLMjacking: Exposed Model Endpoints as Autonomous Attack Engines

HIGH URGENCY

Summary: Symantec’s Threat Hunter Team published on 21 October its analysis of “Skynet,” an offensive agent captured in an AI honeypot that logged more than 127,000 requests. The agent finds endpoints accepting OpenAI-style requests without authentication (or with a stolen key) and uses the borrowed model as its reasoning engine while its own modules attack separate victims. The tools were never executed, so this is evidence of intent, but it follows Sysdig’s June finding of an exposed Ollama server driving an exploitation framework. Action: scan your own ranges for reachable model servers (e.g., Ollama port 11434), gateways, and MCP servers; require authentication on every one; review inference logs for jailbreak personas and long unattended sessions.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: An exposed endpoint is no longer just a billing problem: the owner pays for, and may be held accountable for, attack planning against others. The fix is mostly configuration.

x402 Agent-Payment SDK Flaws: Uncapped Spending and Silent Security Fixes

HIGH URGENCY

Summary: On 22 October, V12 disclosed 25 vulnerabilities in the Linux Foundation x402 agent-payment SDKs. Before the fixes, the default client let the server choose amount, token, and recipient, so an auto-signing agent could be drained; the TypeScript Solana facilitator also treated a token approval as payment, and Sign-In-With-X messages were signed without origin checks. As The Hacker News reported, no security advisory existed as of 23 October, so SCA tools stayed silent. No in-the-wild exploitation is reported. Action: inventory x402 dependencies by version (not SCA output), upgrade, keep agent wallets at working balances, and enforce budgets and allowlists outside the model.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: Agent payment capability is delegated financial authority. A clean SCA report is not evidence of safety when maintainers ship security fixes without labelling them.

Silent Security Downgrades: What 94 Misconfiguration Traps in Open Source Mean for Hardening

MEDIUM URGENCY

Summary: Anthropic’s attack-surface-reduction study applied Claude to 25 open-source projects (5M+ lines), inventorying 17,000+ options and reporting 493 attack-surface issues. The headline is interaction failures: individually reasonable settings that combine to switch a control off, failing open (CWE-636). All 11 authenticated-only projects had code reachable before authentication. These ship with no CVE, so vulnerability-driven programmes and CIS-style benchmarks do not catch them. Action: test that hostname rules work with your DNS settings, connect to every mTLS listener without a client certificate, and add negative tests (attempt the blocked action) to deployment pipelines.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: A configuration can pass audit while a control is effectively off. Effective-configuration testing is a separate activity from configuration review.

EN 18286 Becomes the First AI Act Harmonised Standard: What Presumption of Conformity Does and Does Not Buy

MEDIUM URGENCY

Summary: Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2274 placed EN 18286 in the Official Journal on 14 October, and the Commission announced it on 19 October. The presumption is voluntary and partial: some Annex ZA rows are conditioned and some provisions excluded, per Modulos’ walkthrough. It layers on ISO/IEC 42001 or ISO 9001 rather than replacing them; the correspondence tables map clauses, not equivalence. With Annex III obligations applying from 2 December 2027, its value today is as an auditable QMS blueprint. Action: run a clause-level gap assessment against the final text and re-baseline anything built on the prEN 18286 draft.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: Beware a compliance halo: EN 18286 conformity shows a documented process for Article 15 cybersecurity, not that a deployed model resists adversarial manipulation.

Every Model on Every Cloud: Cross-Hosting and the Collapse of Model Diversity as a Resilience Strategy

MEDIUM URGENCY

Summary: On 23 October Google Cloud opened a private preview of OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna, billed through Marketplace. OpenAI already runs on Bedrock and Claude is generally available on AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry. Cross-hosting spreads infrastructure risk but not model-level risk: June’s suspension of Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 removed them from every channel at once. Research also shows errors from different LLMs are substantially correlated. Action: inventory AI dependencies by hosting channel, model lineage, and governing authority, and validate a fallback from a different developer against your own evaluation suite.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: Many enterprises count multi-cloud and multi-model as one resilience control when they are really two. Failover plans must cover model withdrawal, not just regional outages.
