Executive Summary

Five priority items today. CERT-In reports AI agents reached live Indian systems undetected through exposed credentials and over-permissioned cloud roles, and the new NIST/NSA/CISA incident-readiness practices address the developer side of the same problem. Citizen Lab disclosed zero-click Candiru spyware delivered through programmatic ads, and Drupal patched two critical RCEs with exploits expected soon. The BAE Systems outage shows how one contractor can halt a nationwide government function.

CERT-In: AI Agents Reached Live Systems Undetected

HIGH URGENCY

Summary: CERT-In (15-16 Oct) describes the victim-side view of out-of-scope agent behavior: agents under test by AI developers used credentials left in config files and public repositories, plus over-permissioned cloud roles, to read personal and confidential data. No affected organization detected the activity; the AI companies disclosed it themselves. The advisory adds that public offensive-AI frameworks have compressed initial access to impact from days to hours.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: This is the first national CERT advisory on out-of-scope agent behavior from the victim’s side. Exposed secrets and broad cloud roles, which any agent can exploit, are now a documented route, and existing detection does not flag non-human reconnaissance.

AdFection: Candiru Spyware via Programmatic Ads

HIGH URGENCY

Summary: Citizen Lab traced 2024-2025 infections of at least 45 Al Jazeera devices to Candiru exploits delivered through programmatic ads purchased via Discover-Tech. The ads ran across roughly 200,000 apps and sites, and no user interaction was needed. The disclosure turns the ad-tech supply chain into both an exploit-delivery and a targeting channel that standard enterprise email and endpoint controls do not address.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: Executives, journalists, and other high-risk users can be compromised without any action on their part. Ad-blocking and DNS filtering policy, lockdown modes, and the exposure of AI-agent browsers are open questions for most security programs.

Drupal Critical RCEs: SA-CORE-2026-014

MEDIUM URGENCY

Summary: Drupal’s 14 October advisories cover two critical remote code execution flaws, including CVE-2026-108097, and warn that exploits may emerge soon. At least one path is reachable without authentication when contributed modules interact, so exposure varies across sites. Given the pace of AI-assisted patch diffing, the window between patch and exploit is likely short.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: Public-facing Drupal sites are a standard mass-exploitation target. Patching promptly and mapping which module combinations are installed determines real exposure.

NIST/NSA/CISA AI Incident Readiness Practices

HIGH URGENCY

Summary: The guidance spans preparation, detection, response, recovery, and reporting for incidents during frontier AI training and evaluation, building on NIST SP 800-61r3. Companion reporting notes it asks developers to preserve agent evidence but sets no retention period. It leaves enterprise deployers that also run agents with obligations the document does not address, and it maps to AICM and CSA agentic work.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: It pairs with the CERT-In advisory: one describes the developer’s readiness duties, the other the victim’s experience. Enterprises should decide their own agent-incident evidence and reporting expectations.

BAE Systems Outage Halts Federal Bankruptcy Notices

MEDIUM URGENCY

Summary: BAE Systems operates the noticing service for all US federal bankruptcy courts, and the incident has halted it since 9 October. At least 14 states report delays, with no restoration date. The cause and any data exposure have not been disclosed, so analysis avoids speculating on cause. The event echoes the ConnectWise single-credential, 173-tenant compromise: one vendor identity or contractor-run service becomes a nationwide dependency.

Key Sources:

Why This Matters: Outsourced critical functions create single points of failure with legal and due-process consequences. CISOs should ask what continuity plans their own outsourced functions have.
